Christians from different churches took to the streets to protest against the upsurge of homosexuality and lesbianism in Sekondi-Takoradi, Ghana. The protest was organised by a body called Western Regional Network of Churches. Lifting placards reading “Speak against Gayism”, “Avoid Gayism” and “Don’t do it, it is wrong”, the protest made their voices heard without
any sort of altercations.
Bishop Emmanuel Botwey, General Overseer of the Christian Faith Church called on all arms of government to come out openly and condemn homosexuality. He voiced his concerns and said the practice was not acceptable religiously and culturally and should not be encouraged in the country and submitted a petition to Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, Western Regional Minister.
Mr Aidoo said the government would make sure that the practice did not thrive in the country saying homosexuality is an offence under the Criminal Code.
He advised the Network of Churches to submit memorandum on their stand on the subject to the Constitutional Review Commission. He also said that Parliament would consider their position when the report of the Commission comes before it.
